As Icons Of My Youth Fall Silent

I wrote this in 2005 but never really put it anywhere except on a secondary Livejournal account that no one read. I think it was meant to be part of something longer, but that’s all there is. I’m still happier with how it turned out than most other things I wrote during that time.

I’ve stood in fields with weeks behind me
My life returned, my service done
I tried to draw for college credit
All the stars except the sun
I hope it’s not a problem that
I’ve never cleared my mind to see
or used the sky to calm my nerves
just tried to pass Astronomy
