The drive takes a while, as your friend lives further from downtown than you thought. “So you’re in town for business stuff, huh?”
"Yep. Mostly a bunch of boring meetings…not exactly how I want to spend my weekend, but what can you do?"
"Well, listen. I know you said work stuff is gonna take up all your time this weekend, but we should definitely find some time to hang out. They’ve starting opening some pretty quirky stuff out in my neck of the woods." You’ve never been to this city before, but you know that it’s renowned for its cuisine, eclectic neighborhoods, and emphasis on urban renewal.
Minutes later he points out what he is referring to: you pass an upscale strip mall with a California Pizza Kitchen, a Banana Republic, a Chili’s, and a half-finished Five Guys Burgers & Fries.
The whole story is so great, so funny, and so heartbreaking all at once.
