iPhone OS 3.0 Hidden Features
These aren’t necessarily “hidden”, but most haven’t been advertised and a lot of them haven’t shown up in blog posts that I saw before today. I also have found a couple of my own, which I’ll put below a sample of some of the coolest ones in this forum post (follow the link to see the full list, although some of them are people who are seeing things that aren’t actually “features” or new to 3.0 at all):
- You have the option to forward a contact on to someone now when you view their contact details. (found by higgalls)
- when moving icons on the home screen and you move an app to a different page, if you keep the icon to the edge of the page it will go on to the next page. previously you had to move the icon away from the edge before you could keep moving it to other pages.
- Recents now also display whether or not the call was incoming or outgoing in the list (found by abiyng87)
- when a text message is recieved and you do not “Slide to view” but want to look at it later, when you open the messages app it will open up to the latest received message (found by Acronym)
- when a phone call interrupts you, after the phone call you are taken back to the app you were in before you were interrupted (found by BklynKid)
- more keys on the keyboard now have more options when holding them down. “.” now has “…”, “-” now has a longer dash, quotations and apostrophes can now be curved, quotations also has the option for “«” and “»” (found by LoganT)
- when charging and playing a song, the album art comes up. previously it showed the battery icon (found by JW008)
- Notes now has data detectors. Links are clickable, phone numbers are callable, email address are emailable, and address are locatable (using Maps) (found by iphones4evry1)
- Tapping and holding a link in Safari now brings up a menu with “Open” “Open in new window” and “Copy” which copies the link location (found by jman240)
- in messages, the sending bar now replaces the name at the top instead of being imposed over the message history (found by anthdci)
The two that I didn’t see in this thread at the time I posted this:
- decreased font size on display long podcast names to try to show more of the episode’s title
- you can now choose to have the lock screen and popup notifications of SMSes not show a preview of the text without setting a password to unlock your phone
